Yesterday we went with several other homeschool families to Lancaster Park for a bird watching field trip. We went inside the "classroom" for a bit of learning and discovery about birds, bird watching, what to look for, how to figure out what you are looking at quickly, etc. The kids were all given a set of binoculars and a bird guide to be able to reference should we encounter a bird we're unfamiliar with.
Binoculars in tow we set off for a nature hike to discover the beautiful creatures of the air! Along the way we did manage to see a cardinal, an owl, and TWO snakes...thank you very much but I'll stick to the feathered variety!!

Afterwards we had a picnic lunch and then made a craft. The kids gathered sticks and "attempted" to make a birds nest with nothing to "stick" it together with. They saw quickly just how difficult it is to create a nest...amazing that God created the bird with that ability! Then, they were given playdoh to help form their nest and hold it together!

He finally gave up the idea after one too many unsuccessful rounds and opted for this lovely piece of artwork instead!
