Presentations...

The boys were given the opportunity to showcase their individual strengths by doing individual presentations at school on Friday. They were told that it could be on any topic of their choosing.

I wanted the boys to pick something that excited them, and that they could truly call their own. I asked each boy what they wanted to do.

Ashton chose to do a science experiment. We had actually done this experiment at home, but he created the board to show the scientific method of how he came to his conclusion. What helps things float better? Fresh water or salt water???

Ethan chose to write a book. And a book he wrote too. Three chapters and all! :) So proud of him. He put his all into writing this book. We spend one breezy Sunday afternoon outside together editing his book and he did not want to stop when I told him it was time to go in for dinner. He was happy as a clam working, and re-working his novel.

William – The Dragon Slayer

Chapter One

"The Fire"

Once upon a time there lived nine hundred knights in a long castle. One day came a dragon breathing fire on the castle and the town. The knights tried to stop him but they lost half of their army. So the dragon called his army to form his plan.

One kid named William ran from the dragon to deliver a note to a man named Chancelot that lived very far away. But he ran into a man that was going home. He said “sorry!” Then the man said, “You look cold, come inside.” William said okay and stayed over night.

The next day William said good-bye to the man and ran and ran. He had to get his breath. He was very tired so he slept. When he woke up he noticed that there were two knights that didn’t like him so he hid.

One of the knights tripped and noticed William’s footprints on the ground. They looked in the bushes for a minute but could not find anything.

William noticed there was a pitchfork on the ground. He grabbed the pitchfork, snuck up on the knights and struck them on the back. William took their swords.

He saw a boy that was sitting and said, “Hi, would you like to come with me?” The boy said yes so they headed off to the town to deliver the note to the man.

They stumbled on a track to the woods so they followed it. There was a tiger in their path. Something told them to walk in the middle of the track. At the end of the track there was a cave. There was a mat on the floor that said, “Welcome”. William said, “Why is there a mat?” They went inside and slept for a day.

They heard voices so William pulled his swords out. The voices got louder and he saw two men walking towards him in the woods. The men said, in a rough voice, “What are you doing in our cave?”

Chapter Two

“The Town"

The men tried to grab William and the boy but they were to fast. William and the boy ran away from the men. William said, “I think we lost them.” So they stopped running.

When night came they camped out in the woods. Luckily, William knew how to hunt and set traps for a deer. He heard one of his traps snap. It was a rabbit. It tried to run but couldn’t get loose. William unsnapped the trap and cooked the rabbit for supper.

In the morning they saw the town from the woods. William thought it didn’t look far. They reached the town and asked everyone if they knew of the man named Chancelot who had cut off the dragon’s hand.

One man they had asked knew of him. They asked him if he knew where he lived? The man told them that he lives next to the bakery. William and the boy thanked the man and went searching for the bakery. They finally found it and knocked on the man’s door.

Chapter Three

“The Take Back”

When the man answered the door, William told him everything that was happening at the castle with the dragon. So Chancelot said, “We must get ready to face the dragon and free the castle!”

Chancelot said good-bye to his family and they headed off to the castle. When they camped in the woods, Chancelot caught a deer with his bow and arrow for supper. When the morning came Chancelot set up a target area to practice their archery. William and Chancelot practiced for a few hours. Then they set off towards the castle.

On the way they got lost for a few minutes. William noticed that they were actually going the right way when he saw the castle. William thought the castle looked different because the dragon had hung his own flags there.

When they reached the castle Chancelot said, “I’ll fight off the dragon while you two free the guards, King and Queen.” William and the boy went down to the dungeons but saw the dragon’s guards. So William pretended that he was a dragon and yelled, “INTRUDER, INTRUDER!” So when the guards left they snuck into the area holding the guards, the King and Queen. William and the boy freed everyone.

When the two dragon guards got to the dungeons they were arrested.

When the guards and William got out of the dungeons they saw Chancelot fighting the dragon but saw him get hurt. He pulled back his arrow and fired. It hit the dragon. The dragon flew down towards him. But then Chancelot dropped his sword. William then had an idea to pick up the sword and throw it at the dragon, since he knew archery well. Two guards jumped on the dragon’s back. Then he saw he had a chance to get the sword. So he ran and picked it up and threw it at the dragon. He hit the dragon and killed it. All the other dragons flew away and never came back!
